ETERNITY

She became restless as the night set in
She tossed and turned but couldn’t sleep yet
She then decided to leave the room
She walked out and entered his room
There, she found him sleeping peacefully.

She slowly walked towards him and slept next to him
She thought what life will be without him
The thought sent chills down her spine
She then saw his belly going up and down
He’s alive; she thought and breathed a sigh of relief.

She then looked at his pale skin
That has worn out after all these years
She saw the wrinkles on his face
And slowly touched his cheek
There was softness on the once rigid skin.

She watched the beauty of him sleep
And traced her memory back to how he was
The sculpted beard, charming looks,
The smile on his face that could make someone easily fall for.

She then got reminded of the voyager in him
Someone who was not confined to bonding
Who easily risked failure and faced life boldly
She was upset for not having to have seen this all in real.

She got a glimpse of all the photos she had seen, in her mind
She thought how lucky his lady was.
She then caressed his hair and found them tender and frail
She sensed his age catching up.

Tears slowly rolled down her cheek
On the thought of how he spent his life to make her happy
And on how he would give his life to save her
The warm drops fell on his hand and woke him up.

He slowly opened his eyes and looked at her
“Father” she said with her eyes filled with tears
He smiled and gently placed a kiss on her forehead
And put her back to sleep and patted her.

The night no more troubled her
As she slept like a new born
With no worry about the future
Safe and secure in his arms.

P.S: He's been putting me to sleep for the past 20 years and turns my sleepless scary nights into peaceful ones.
