MADRAS KADHAL

She was black and white,
She knew all classic white cars,
The air she inhaled was pure,
Her culture was breathtaking.

She was proud of her filter coffee and idli,
She had a trace of British accent,
Though she was a tamilian;
Majestic as she stood,

I fell in love with her,
In the banks of river Cooum;
Love blossomed between us,
But destiny made me leave her and go.

I came in search of her years later;
She had drastically changed,
She was no more Madras,
Chennai they called her.

She was no more black and white,
She was brightly lit,
And was home for millions;
She was everyone's favorite.

The British accent was far gone,
She spoke a different Tamil,
The river had lost its beauty;
She inhaled a very polluted air.

The classic cars were hardly seen,
Her culture was modified,
But yet, she was breathtakingly beautiful,
She was still proud of her filter coffee and idli,

And i fell in love with her all over again
She loved me more than she used to
The bond grew stronger between us;
Madras or Chennai, I'll love her forever.
